Carbon Offsets

Biomaterials made from captured greenhouse gases.

Carbon Offset Protocols: In a nutshell, a protocol or methodology is a license to generate offsets. For any kind of GHG-reducing activity, a protocol provides for a clear and transparent process to calculate actual emission reductions. With no methodology, there are no carbon credits. Most projects can use existing methodologies, but many cannot. Why Are We Different? Carbonomics is focused on the next generation of carbon offsets – often the types of projects that have no existing methodology. We’ve developed dozens of new protocols and helped clients get through the entire process. We like to think outside the box, partnering with innovators to bring new carbon assets to the market. Case Study on Newlight Technologies: Carbonomics developed the first carbon capture and utilization protocol for Newlight, a company that uses microorganisms from the ocean to turn air and carbon that would otherwise go to the atmosphere into a biomaterial. Newlight's facility in Huntington Beach, CA is using captured carbon to make high-performance biomaterials that can replace fiber, plastic, and leather. The facility runs using a process accredited by the Verified Carbon Standard as a carbon credit-generating process.
